Cannabis legalisation – a billion dollar opportunity

26 Aug 2019. Use of the tobacco industry’s core product offering, the combustible cigarette, is declining in most of its major international markets. Across the world, smoking prevalence is declining and even in those markets in which smoking incidence is being maintained, regulation and excise increases often drive per capita consumption declines. As a result, the industry is examining its response to this decline in combustible tobacco consumption. An obvious option is mitigation by expansion into other segments, such as the delivery of reduced risk nicotine or other substances, writes Euromonitor’s Shane MacGuill.
