After a rising number of worldwide infections with the COVID-19 virus during recent weeks, the decision was made at short notice. "Unfortunately, the development of the infection incidence from the last few weeks has made planning for a successful pilot presentation of the “ITShub” considerably more difficult," said Sabine Loos, the Managing Director of the Westfalenhallen Unternehmensgruppe GmbH.
Messe Dortmund had announced the innovative hybrid format in May this year as an exchange platform to replace the two postponed trade fairs InterTabac and Intersupply. The decision to cancel the “ITShub” means that there will be no form of the traditional trade fairs at Messe Dortmund in 2020.
"It [“ITShub”] was an attempt for us to also meet the industry's wish to create an exchange platform this year for the postponed leading trade fairs in September. In times of restricted travel behaviour and increasing digital communication, a hybrid format seemed to us to be conceivably suitable for implementing this platform," explained Loos. "In order to fill the digital part of a hybrid event with content, a physical event world is of course also required, which I would like to present to virtual visitors. In this area, travel and thus participation, especially for international participants, remains a real challenge, which in the end led to the cancellation of the event," Loos added.
