JTI invests in Bucharest cigarette plant

09 Jun 2009. Japan Tobacco International (JTI), the third largest player on the Romanian cigarette market, will invest EUR 30 million in two new production lines at its plant in Bucharest, according to a report by Ziarul Financiar.

Gilda Lazar, corporate affairs and communications director of JTI Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia said the investment will boost the plant's degree of automation by mid-2010 and increase production capacity by 25 per cent compared with 2008.

The JTI plant in Bucharest currently exports one in five cigarettes to 35 markets, with company forecasts indicating a rise in volumes delivered to foreign markets by around 15 per cent next year. (pi)
