Majority says plain packs ineffective - survey

01 Dec 2017. A survey commissioned by JTI (Japan Tobacco International) has found that 59 per cent of Australians believe that plain packaging has not been effective, according to a press release from the company’s website.

CanvasU, an independent Australian research agency, conducted the "nationally representative" online survey by interviewing 2,097 Australian adults over the age of 18 between 2 Nov and 11 Nov. The poll was conducted to find out Australians’ opinions on the plain package policy, which was implemented five years ago.

The survey also found that 80 per cent of Australians believe the government would not change the policy if the evidence suggested it was not effective in reducing smoking prevalence.

The survey can be found here.
