Interview with Przemysław Noworyta, director of the Polish Tobacco Growers Association.
TJI: Mr Noworyta, in March 2010 the European Commission confirmed their decision to not authorise EUR 49 million under Article 68 to support the tobacco sector in Poland. How have the farmers reacted to this decision?
Przemysław Noworyta is director of the Polish Tobacco Growers Association (Polski Zwiazek Plantatorów Tytoniu). The Association was established in 1997 and contracts about 6,500 to 7,000 growers in the south east of Poland (Podkarpacie and Lublin area), the growing area north of Krakow and in the southwestern part of Poland. In 2009, farmers with the PTGA produced 20 million kg of tobacco.
