The registry is mandated under the Tobacco and Primary Medical Services Act and will identify tobacco sales locations so they can be monitored by trading standards officers, the Scottish government said when it announced new tobacco rules for 2011.
"We were also conscious of the need not to burden responsible retailers with needless bureaucracy," said Scottish Public Health Minister Shona Robison. "That's why the registration process is simple to complete online and will be free of charge," she said. (pi) |
