TJI no longer in TABEXPO coalition
By now, you may have heard or read that Tobacco Journal International is no longer a member of the TABEXPO coalition. Negotiations following the publication’s purchase by the German publishing house, Konradin, at the start of the year, were unable to bring about an acceptable agreement for all parties involved. We had a good ride while it lasted and we will miss playing the role of host to all of you!
This, however, does not signal the end of TJI’s nor Konradin’s commitment to the industry: In addition to purchasing this international publication, Konradin, a German publishing leader with a focus on trade publications, also purchased the German-language tobacco industry titles; we also strongly believe there are benefits to international shows and meetings which simply cannot be replaced by the internet or printed forums. Thus, we are currently looking into alternatives for organising an international forum with all of the benefits of the Paris show, but perhaps reflecting some of the changes happening in the world around us. It is too early at this point to provide more details but until we can, we look forward to meeting new faces in November at TABEXPO and sharing a laugh with some old ones.
Times certainly have changed since the 1990s, when we held our first joint event with the other coalition partners, and the industry has changed with it. As the world grows smaller and more interconnected, relationships will continue to prove very valuable and we simply cannot expect a dynamic and multifaceted industry such as tobacco to come knocking here in Mainz.
We would like to take this time to thank Dayton Matlick and the Tobacco Reporter staff, as well as the folks at Dr. Kater for the successes we have shared in previous TABEXPOS.
As for the rest of you: thanks for the memories and let’s get ready to make some more in Paris!
