Tobacco production increases in Syria

22 Nov 2021. Syria’s tobacco crop output continues to rise with farmers of al-Ghab area in Hama province having finished harvesting for the current agricultural season, reports sana.

The production of the current season amounted to about 1,734 tonnes, including 1,504 tonnes of FCV and 237 tonnes of Burley, according to Abdurrahman Badi’a Fadil, Head of the Tobacco Agriculture Department in al-Ghab area. Fadil added that the tobacco cultivation has witnessed a significant increase in recent years, as the cultivated area has reached 1,000 hectares during the current season. He noted that tobacco cultivation is concentrated in Freekeh, Shataha, Salhab, Ain al-Krum, al-Asharnah and Nahr al-Bared, the report said.
