59 per cent of Americans favour a total smoking ban in restaurants. Americans are particularly tolerant of smoking bars with 23 per cent stating there should be no restrictions, and 31 per cent believing that smoking should be prohibited in bars. The report also suggests that the decline in support for public smoking can be explained in part by a general decline in smoking from 30 per cent in 1987 to 22 per cent today. (pi) |
