06 Mar 2018. Japan Tobacco Inc. (JT) has announced it will expand the sales area of the Ploom TECH starter kit and tobacco capsules to five prefectures in Japan from 19 March 2018, according to a company press release.

The Ploom TECH starter kit and tobacco capsules will be sold in approximately 550 tobacco stores in the Japanese prefectures of Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama, Osaka and Fukuoka from 19 March 2018. From 16 April 2018, the products will also be sold in roughly 19,000 stores, primarily convenience stores, in the same five prefectures and four cities which include Sapporo, Sendai, Nagoya and Hiroshima, according to the company press release.

JT stated that it “aims to gain a leading position in the tobacco vapor category in the Japanese market, by providing a wider range of choice that satisfies the varying needs of our customers.”

JT has been steadily expanding the sales area of Ploom TECH. Since March 2016, the product has been sold online and in various shops across Fukuoka city. Since November 2017, the tobacco capsules has been sold in convenience stores in Tokyo, and, according to the company, “their off-take share of market has reached 3.3 per cent.”
