The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has taken legal action against an expatriate found to be in possession of over 14,000 bags of chewing tobacco, reports Muscat Daily.
The circulation of chewing tobacco is banned in Oman and the CPA, which is represented by its directorates and departments in various governorates, are cracking down on the spread of the prohibited substance in order to maintain public health and safety.
The expatriate was found with over 14,000 bags of chewing tobacco after a raid on his workplace.
‘The department searched for and verified the information, and then coordinated with the Public Prosecution Department in Dhahirah Governorate and the Dhahirah Police Command to raid the worker’s site, where more than 14,000 bags of chewing tobacco were seized from his possession,’ said the CPA.
The CPA says it will spare no effort to control markets and products that may be harmful to the health and safety of consumers and will take legal action against anyone violating the rules, reports Muscat Daily. The authority also called on consumers to report any illegal activity.
