The Leaf Tobacco Deliberative Council has released its annual report for 2020, according to a Japan Tobacco Inc. press release.
The Council was in agreement with a proposal submitted by JT, stating that the domestic tobacco cultivation area for 2020 will be set at 6,422 hectares – 5.1 per cent smaller than in the previous year. At the same time, the purchase price for leaf tobacco remains stable at JPY 1,932.32 (EUR 16) per kilogram for all leaf types.
The Leaf Tobacco Deliberative Council, which is chaired by Yoshitsugu Minagawa, consists of 11 members that are appointed by JT and approved be the Minister of Finance. The Council is responsible for conferring on important matters surrounding the cultivation and purchase of domestically grown leaf tobacco in response to inquiries by JT, the press release explains.
JT says it will abide by the Council’s report and will undertake its tobacco leaf operations in 2020.
