As the US turns its back on the WHO, the UK is set to become its biggest national donor with a 30 per cent increase of its funding, reports the Guardian.

Boris Johnson is set to announce the increase in funding at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) via a pre-recorded video message in which he will urge it to heal “the ugly rifts” that are damaging the international fight against coronavirus, according to the Guardian.
Johnson plans to pour GBP 340 million (USD 433 million) into the WHO over the next four years and will also demand the body receives more insight into reports on how countries are dealing with pandemics.
While both the US and China are refusing to join the WHO in finding a global vaccine for the coronavirus, Johnson is backing the international approach.
“After nine months of fighting Covid, the very notion of the international community looks tattered. We know that we cannot continue in this way. Unless we unite and turn our fire against our common foe, we know that everyone will lose,” Johnson will say in the video message, according to the Guardian.
