Three Alabama vapor shop owners filed suit against the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), saying compliance costs of new e-cigarette regulations will destroy their businesses, the Montgomery Advertiser reported.
“We know that Alabamians will understand the impact this (FDA regulation) is going to have for them. 150 small businesses will have to close their doors. A thousand Alabamians would lose good paying jobs,” Joe Hubbard, the lawyer representing the company, told the Advertiser.
The new rules, part of the deeming rule to expand FDA tobacco regulatory powers, are slated to go into effect in August. Similar suits have been filed in California and Washington D.C.
