Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska signed safer-cigarette legislation into law on Wednesday.
Alaska thus joins 13 other states who have adopted laws this year requiring retailers to sell so-called fire-safe cigarettes, which are manufactured with a special reduced-ignition paper. The law aims to prevent accidental fires.
