Altria acquired Sherman Group Holdings, including the Nat Sherman subsidiaries and super-premium cigar brands, for an undisclosed price, the company said.
“We believe Altria will be a great steward of the Sherman company and its brands,” said Nat Sherman Executive Vice President Bill Sherman. Founded in 1930, Nat Sherman luxury cigars enjoy a reputation that extends far beyond the family’s flagship tobacco shop in New York City. The business expanded into premium cigarettes manufactured in Greensboro, NC.
Nat Sherman will join Altria cigar unit John Middleton and cigarette maker Philip Morris USA as part of the corporation’s smokeable products segment. “Nat Sherman has a terrific brand portfolio which complements Altria’s existing smokeable product segment,” said Chief Executive Officer Marty Barrington. Nat Sherman would benefit from Altria’s retail distribution and brand management, he said.
