Altria Group is to raise the price on all moist smokeless tobacco and snus brands by USD 0.05 (EUR 0.04) as of 25 May, reports convenience news website CSPnet.
CSP quoted an industry alert issued by Christina McGlone, an analyst with Deutsche Bank Securities, New York, as the source.
"We see this as indicative of confidence in smokeless category volume (currently trending at more than 5 per cent) and consistent with our view that smokeless pricing rationality is stabilizing between [Altria and Reynolds American]," said McGlone.
While Reynolds American has not yet followed suit, "we expect this imminently," said McGlone.
Following the annual meeting of shareholders on 17 May, Martin J. Barrington succeeded Michael E. Szymanczyk as Altria's chairman and CEO. Szymanczyk had earlier announced his decision to retire after 23 years with the company. (pi)
