According to a Rustabak trade news agency report, Australian packaging giant Amcor Rentsch plans to invest Euro 20 million in a tobacco packaging plant in Ukraine, as the group’s European division managing director Jerzy Czubak informed after his meeting with a Kharkiv regional government’s official.
It has been agreed that the plant will be built on a desolate construction site in the vicinity of Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city where Philip Morris, the country’s market leader, has just opened a new cigarette making facility. Amcor Rentsch plans to complete construction and put the plant into operation in June 2007. The facility will create one hundred new jobs. Amcor Rentsch Europe is one of the European leaders in tobacco packaging. The business is headquartered in Switzerland, with manufacturing plants located in Switzerland, France, Germany, Poland, Portugal and Russia and employing over 1,200 workers. (vt)
