Indian tobacco officials may nearly halve the tobacco production quota for Andhra Pradesh due to excess supply on world markets and protests by state tobacco farmers against falling prices, the Business Standard reported.
A senior member of the Indian Tobacco Association reportedly said ITA will request the Tobacco Board to cut the quota for Andhra Pradesh to 100 million kg next growing season from 170 million kg. Less demand and lower quality are problems in the region, according to Business Standard. (pi)
