Tobacco sold at auction through 58 days of the marketing season has fetched an average USD 2.90 per kg (EUR 2.59) compared with USD 2.92 in 2016, the Zimbabwe Herald said.
Nearly 155 million kgs have been delivered, which has grossed farmers USD 450 million, or USD 25 million than last year, the Herald said. Cash problems continue as some banks are not meeting withdrawal limits set by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, the newspaper said.
Of 45.7 million kgs exported, China accounted for the largest volume at 13.8 million kg, followed by South Africa, Indonesia and Belgium, the Herald said. Export earnings were down USD 26 million to USD 222 million.
