The parliament has unanimously voted to ban all forms of tobacco advertising from Janaury 2021, reports the Brussels Times.
Although most tobacco advertising has been disallowed since 1999, newsagents are currently still allowed to place advertisements for tobacco products in their stores and on the outside of the premises, according to the Brussels Times.
From 1 January 2021, all of these forms of advertising will also be banned. The government wants to discourage people from smoking which is still the main cause of various lung cancers. The legal age to buy tobacco will be raised from 16 to 18 and smoking in cars will now be forbidden when children under 18 are present, previously the age limit was 16.
