British American Tobacco organic volume increased 2.1 per cent in the first six months of 2016 as the company increased its share of key markets, BAT said.
Sales rose 4.2 per cent to GBP 6.7 billion (EUR 8 billion) but reported operating profit fell 5.7 per cent to GBP 2.5 billion. Without currency fluctuations, profit would have risen 1.8 per cent, BAT said.
With acquisitions, cigarette volume rose 3.4 per cent to 332 billion sticks. In key markets, which account for more than 75 per cent of volume, market share rose 30 basis points. Key brand volume rose nearly 11 per cent.
BAT said its first heat-not-burn product, iFuse, is performing ahead of expectations in Romania. The company completed its acquisition of the UK’s Ten Motives in April, and said integration of the Chic Group vapour business is on track in Poland.
