KPMG has been named external auditor at British American Tobacco to replace PricewaterhouseCoopers, BAT said.
PricewaterhouseCoopers, which had audited the cigarette maker since the Group listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1998, resigned in early March. Three companies, Deloitte, Ernst & Young and KPMG were invited to bid for the contract.
BAT reportedly is suing PricewaterhouseCoopers over work arising from acquisition of a US company, Appleton Papers Division, that may have to pay substantial damages for polluting the environment.
