British American Tobacco (BAT) terminated all supply agreements with Consort Medical for Voke, the cigarette-shaped nicotine inhaler licensed in the UK as a medical device but never marketed.
BAT subsidiary Nicovations activated a contract clause that allowed immediate termination if the inhaler had not been not launched by the end of 2016, Consort Medical said. Bespak, a Consort Medical subsidiary, manufactured and supplied filled Voke inhalers. Talks on the future of Voke are underway, Consort Medical said.
The inhaler, licensed to Nicovations by its designer Kind Consumer, was approved as a medical device in 2014. Voke was Nicovations’ first licensed product. In 2016 the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) granted Nicovations a license for e-Voke, a rechargeable e-cigarette containing pharmaceutical-grade nicotine. That product also has yet to be commercialised.
