British American Tobacco (BAT) Germany has placed a major order with Belgian automation company Egemin for its production plant in Bayreuth, the biggest BAT-factory worldwide.
The order comprises the replacement of the obsolete Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) system and a substantial extension of the existing layout with new vehicles, said Egemin. The new system will consist of nine Egemin AGVs for transport in the secondary division.
"The AGV system at BAT in Bayreuth will be used in 24/7 shifts and bring full pallets with packaging materials from the high-bay warehouse to the production machines in the secondary division," says Marketing Communications Manager Michaël Coryn.
The project also includes an in-house simulation which will be conducted prior to engineering to validate the number of AGV’s required. Delivery and testing on-site are scheduled for May. Commissioning of the AGV system is planned for 1 June.
The tobacco industry is a core industry for Egemin. (ci)
