British American Tobacco (BAT) has said that it is opening its Shared Business Services in Pakistan which will run parallel to its business in Malaysia, reports The International News.
The Ministry of Commerce had previously stated that the new set-up in Pakistan meant BAT would be closing its operation in Malaysia, a statement that BAT has now refuted.
The company said that the information was incorrect and that the new development in Pakistan is being established as a parallel to the business in Malaysia and will serve the Asia Pacific and Middle East Region.
According to The International News, BAT’s investment in Pakistan will create thousands of jobs over a period of five years, generating global career prospects and leading to millions of dollars in service exports. It is the first time in many years that a multinational has shifted its Shared Services hub to Pakistan and Abdul Razak Dawood, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Commerce and Investment, said he hoped the move would encourage other multinationals to follow suit and ensured the government’s full support.
