British American Tobacco (BAT) cigarette volume at 165 billion sticks in the third quarter was unchanged and total tobacco volume measured in stick equivalents dipped 0.2 percentage points to 171 billion sticks.
Cigarette volume in the Americas fell 9.2 per cent to 28 billion sticks. In Western Europe an 8.4 per cent increase raised volume by 2 billion sticks to 32 billion sticks.
Through nine months of 2017, BAT said it increased market share in its key market share by 40 basis points. In the area of reduced risk products, BAT said it was about to launch a new vaping platform in Europe called Vype Pebble. In December BAT said it would begin a city test of Glo, a tobacco heating system. Market share in the UK vaping segment has increased this year to 35 per cent via sales of Vype and acquisition of Ten Motives, BAT said.
Announcing a USD 47 billion (EUR 43 billion) offer for the 57.8 per cent of Reynolds American that it does not own, BAT said an acquisition of the US tobacco company would create the world’s largest tobacco and reduced-risk tobacco product manufacturer.
