A bill that would exempt vaping products from costly pre-market approval by regulators to sell e-cigarettes with liquids containing nicotine is headed for the US House of Representatives, Reuters reported.
Sponsored by Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter of California, the bill would free vaping products from many restrictions contained in the Food and Drug Administration’s “deeming rule” that took effect last year. Particularly troublesome, say vaping advocates, is the 2007 cut-off date in the rule that would require costly FDA approval for nearly all vaping products currently on the market.
Submission of the Hunter bill was expected in a matter of days, Reuters said. A bi-partisan proposal to blunt the impact of the cut-off date that was introduced by representatives Tom Cole of Oklahoma and Sanford Bishop of George also faces an imminent vote, the news agency said.
