Lawmakers began reviewing a bill that would leave the tobacco leaf tax imposed a decade ago unchanged at 20 per cent, Xinhua said.
The tax was first levied on leaf merchants in 2006 and has raised the equivalent of USD 16.6 billion (EUR 13.9 billion) in the ensuing decade, the news agency said. The draft law has been given a first reading by the National People’s Congress Standing Committee, Xinhua said.
