Philanthropist and former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg gave another USD 360 million (EUR 337 million) to global tobacco control efforts, raising his total commitment to near USD 1 billion, the Washington Post reported.
Recipient of the donation was Bloomberg Philanthropies, which said the money would in part be used to work with countries on taxing tobacco products and countering industry efforts to subvert control measures, the Post said. The organisation is the largest funder of tobacco control measures in developing countries, the newspaper said.
