The Brazilian Tobacco Growers Association (Afubra) has released the final figures for the 2021/2022 tobacco crop with South-Brazilian tobacco growers producing a total of 560,181 tons, reports Kohltrade.

The 560,181 tons are divided into 512,594 tons for the Virginia variety, 41,793 tons for Burley, and 5,794 tons for Galpão Comum. The results were obtained through surveys carried out with tobacco producers, by the entity’s Department of Research and Statistics.
Taking into account that, in the South of Brazil, in terms of area, there was a reduction of 9.8 per cent from 273,317 ha in 2020/2021 to 246,590 ha, production outcomes fell from 628,489 tons to 560,181 tons, a reduction of 10.9 per cent.
On the other hand, the average price paid to tobacco growers in southern Brazil grew by 61.5 per cent this year, reports Kohltrade. The price for the 2021/2022 crop was BRL 17.02 (USD 3.28) compared to BRL 10.54 (USD 2.03) for the previous year’s crop. By state, the average prices were as follows: in the Rio Grande do Sul BRL 17.26 (USD 3.32); in Santa Catarina BRL 17.19 (USD 3.31); and in Paraná BRL 16.41 (USD3.16).
For the 2022/2023 crop season, the production estimate will be completed at the end of October. The projection for the southern Brazilian area to be planted indicates a slight increase, according to Kohltrade.
