Ministry input on banning direct foreign investment (FDI) in the tobacco sector has been assembled into a final note to the Cabinet, the Times of India said.
Cabinet deliberations are expected to begin soon, the newspaper said in a story citing unnamed sources. FDI currently is allowed in areas including franchising, brand and management contracts but prohibited in manufacture of cigars, cigarettes and tobacco substitutes, the Times said.
