UNITED STATES
Cannabis ads allowed on Twitter

Social media platform Twitter has become the first in the US to allow cannabis companies to advertise their brands and products, reports Reuters.

Twitter had previously only allowed adverts for CBD topical products but has now officially said it would permit cannabis companies to advertise on its platform. However, it stated that companies would have to show they have a proper license, pass through its approval process, only target jurisdictions where they are licensed to operate and most importantly, do not target people below 21 years, reports Reuters.
Trulieve Cannabis Corp (TRUL.CD) responded by launching a multistate campaign on Twitter after the news broke.
“This is a pretty massive win for legal cannabis marketers,” multistate cannabis and medical marijuana company Cresco Labs said.
“This change speaks to the growing acceptance of cannabis as a mainstream wellness category, and we are hopeful it will serve as a catalyst for other social media platforms to follow suit,” said Kate Lynch of Curaleaf, the biggest cannabis company operating in the United States.
Other social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok follow a “no cannabis advertising policy” since the drug is still illegal at the federal level.
