CBD vapes gaining popularity among teens

Vaping CBD (cannabidiol) is on the rise among middle and high school students in the US, according to a national US survey, reports medicalxpress.

More than one in five students who use e-cigarettes said they had vaped CBD, a component of marijuana that does not get people high the way THC does, according to results of the 2022 National Youth Tobacco Survey. The survey found that Hispanic and LGBTQ+ kids were most likely to smoke CBD.
For the study, researchers took a nationally representative sample of about 28,000 American students from the Youth Tobacco Survey conducted from January to May of 2022. Of the 2,448 reported active e-cigarette users, 21.3 per cent said they had vaped CBD, and 6.3 per cent didn’t know whether or not they had vaped CBD.
Health experts warn there can be serious risks involved. “The evidence is coming out that the younger you are when you start using cannabis or marijuana, the greater the impact we can see on brain development and mood,” explained Dr. Diane Tanaka, medical director of the Teenage and Young Adult Health Center at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
The findings were published 16 August in JAMA Network Open. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 2.5 million middle and high school kids reported using e-cigarettes in 2022.
