A half-smoked La Corona sold for USD 12,000 (EUR 10,000) at an online auction held seven decades after wartime British prime minister Winston Churchill stubbed it out at a Paris Airport in May 1947, the Associated Press reported.
Four inches of the Cuban cigar with a personalised Winston Churchill label and an autographed photograph of Churchill smoking the cigar went to an unnamed Florida collector, the AP said. The cigar stub was kept by a British airman who was part of the crew that flew Churchill to Le Bourget Airport and back, the news agency said.
