Chancellor Gordon Brown has raised duty by 11 pence on packs of 20 cigarettes under the budget presented Wednesday, 21 March.
In a bid to "do something more" to cut smoking, Brown also lowered the VAT from 17.5 per cent to 5 per cent on nicotine patches and other aids to quitting.
