A member of the U.S. House of Representatives requested an investigation into the actions of Kretek International saying the company circumvents the ban on flavoured cigarettes by producing clove-flavoured cigars.
Henry Waxman, the top Democrat on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, in a Monday letter asked Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Margaret Hamburg to start an investigation and to close the loophole to include a ban on clove cigars.
Kretek International, a privately held company that imports and markets clove tobacco products. (pi)
