2.7 tons of contraband tobacco have been seized by Turkish security officials after a tip-off, reports Anadolu Agency.
A cargo company in Istanbul had notified security forces after it had become aware of suspicious containers at its cargo delivery centre.
Initially, 510 kilogrammes of contraband tobacco were found and confiscated in the Silivri district and three suspects detained, according to Anadolu Agency. The search was later expanded to a separate warehouse where another 2.19 tons of tobacco were found along with 90 litres of a liquid substance that is suspected to be used for hookah water pipe smoking.
