Standardising terminology and testing procedures for electronic cigarettes will be the subject of a Cooperative Centre for Scientific Research Relative to Tobacco (CORESTA) report at the Paris-based group’s autumn meeting.
“Interest in electronic cigarettes and electronic nicotine delivery systems or devices has seen a large increase over the last few years”, CORESTA said in a statement. “While the market is growing, there are gaps in the science related to these products, their components and the product use patterns.”
A task force comprised of two teams and drawing on the expertise of 30 CORESTA member organisations around the world is working on a document to harmonise e-cigarette terms and product definitions. The teams also are collecting data to back forthcoming recommendations on product testing.
An initial report will be presented at the CORESTA Smoke Science and Product Technology meeting in Seville, Spain, from 29 Sept to 3 Oct.
