The Hungarian affiliates of Imperial Tobacco, Japan Tobacco International and Philip Morris International made a counter offer to the government for operation of a centralized distribution system for tobacco products, the Budapest Business Journal said.
A concession to supply all retail tobacco shops recently was awarded British American Tobacco and Taban Trafik, a unit of Hungary’s Continental Tobacco Group. The three companies making the counter offer complained they should have been allowed to compete for the distribution system contract via public tender, the business journal said.
