Florida’s Third District Court of Appeals upheld a USD 33 million (EUR 25 million) judgement against Lorillard Tobacco in an Engle progeny case, saying in its ruling the cigarette company reiterated past arguments in its appeal.
The suit initially was filed by Dorothy Alexander, the wife of a man who died from lung cancer, who sought compensatory and punitive damages. A larger award was reduced to USD 8 million compensatory and USD 25 million in punitive damges. Lorillard appealed. The appeals court ruling was published on 4 Sept.
