As part of a crackdown on e-cigarettes, disposable vapes are set to be banned and further restrictions on flavours and advertising put in place, reports the Irish Independent.
Earlier this year, the Irish government banned the sale of vapes to children and now, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly is keen to ban single-use e-cigarettes, after Fianna Fáil Teachta Dála Paul McAuliffe called on the government to react to the negative environmental impact disposables are having. Donnelly said he was in favour of the policy and also said he would be targeting flavours and point of sales in shops, reports the Irish Independent.
“I fully support the policy,” Mr Donnelly told the Irish Independent. “I’m drafting a second vaping bill to address further issues: flavours, point of sale advertising, possibly other issues.”
Minister for the Circular Economy, Ossian Smyth, also wants to see disposables banned and said it would be possible under the Circular Economy Act, which allows a ban on single-use plastics, or through an EU directive on single-use plastics, reports the Irish Independent.
“I’d be interested in including a ban on disposable vapes in the Bill, if it’s something Ossian [Smyth] would find useful,” said Mr Donnelly.
