The total value of German exports of agricultural products rose by 4 per cent to DM 39.6 billion in 1996
A representative of the German ministry of agriculture told the German parliament that the competitiveness of the country’s exporters is improving.
Tobacco products belong to the main export items and registered an 18.7 per cent increase in value in 1996 to DM 2.4 billion against DM 2 billion in 1995. The amount of tobacco products exported reached 139 million tonnes in 1996 compared to 123 million tonnes in 1995. Tobacco imports amounted to DM 1.9 billion or 225.2 tonnes.
