The Federation of All India Farmer Associations (FAIFA) urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to include tobacco farmers in the country’s delegation to the November plenary session of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), The Hindu reported.
India is hosting the seventh semi-annual meeting (COP7) of the FCTC, a treaty administered by the World Health Organisation. Tobacco interests regularly are shut out of FCTC meetings. FAIFA joins other Indian tobacco groups in pressuring the government for representation.
