FDA crackdown on Juul

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has confiscated thousands of pages of documents from the popular e-cigarette manufacturer after a surprise visit to the company’s headquarters in San Francisco, according to a CNBC report, Business Insider reported.

The agency is currently investigating if the company marketed its Juul vaping devices to teenagers, according to the report.
In a statement released to CNBC, the FDA said that it was looking for “further documentation related to Juul's sales and marketing practices, among other things,” Business Insider reported.
The agency started an investigation into the company’s advertising and promotional methods and their influence on teens in April. From this point on, the company has provided the FDA with “over 50,000 pages” of documents, said Kevin Burns, CEO of Juul Labs, in a statement sent to Business Insider.
Burns commented on the surprise visit saying, “The meetings last week with FDA gave us the opportunity to provide information about our business from our marketing practices to our industry-leading online age-verification protocols to our youth prevention efforts. It was a constructive and transparent dialogue.”
Burns said that the company wants to be “part of the solution in preventing underage use, and we believe it will take industry and regulators working together to restrict youth access.”
