The comment period on regulation of menthol cigarettes has been extended by two months, the Food and Drug Administration said.
Moving back the deadline to 22 Nov from 23 Sept was done in response to requests for more time from interested parties, the agency said. When the US banned characterising flavours in cigarettes, menthol was granted an exception. One option believed to be under consideration is including menthol cigarettes in the existing flavours ban.
