FDA to publish filed applications

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) plans to publish a list of e-cigarette makers who have filed an application to stay on the market, reports Bloomberg.

The regulators plan to make public a list of all products that are subject to the FDA’s 9 September deadline and have filed applications to remain on the US market. This process is usually secretive but the agency feels it will help customers and retailers identify illegal products more easily, according to Bloomberg.
“We want to sell legal products responsibly, and we look to the agency for which products are legal to be marketed and which are not,” Anna Blom, director of government relations of the National Association of Convenience Stores.
There have been around 2,000 applications for e-cigarettes and other newly regulated tobacco products as well as more than 400 million items that would need to apply to stay on the market said Mitch Zeller, director of the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products. All products with applications that were filed before the deadline will have a one-year grace period to stay on the market while the review takes place unless the FDA rejects the request, reports Bloomberg.
