Finland is the eleventh European country to introduce plain packaging for tobacco products and e-cigarettes, reports AT Schweiz.
With the tightening of the Tobacco Act passed on 13 April 2023, brand images and logos will be banned from the packages of tobacco and e-cigarette products in Finland as of 1 May. The introduction of plain packaging, i.e. packaging without the specific brand elements and with large pictorial warnings, together with price increases and comprehensive advertising bans, are considered to be one of the most effective tobacco prevention measures, the report said. Australia was the first country to introduce neutral, uniform packaging for tobacco products in 2012. Within a few years, more than a dozen countries have followed Australia’s example.
