The Dutch government is to ban the sale of fruit and other flavoured liquids for e-cigarettes from October next year, NOS reported.
Banana, orange or cookie: all e-cigarette flavours will be permanently removed from the market on 1 October 2023. This is evident from an amendment recently published in the Government Gazette.
From that date, liquids for so-called vapes and other e-cigarettes may only taste like tobacco. The ban applies to both liquids for refills as well as pre-filled e-cigarettes and disposable vapes. From 1 January, shops still have nine months to sell the flavoured e-cigarettes. They may no longer be produced from 1 July.
In addition to a ban on flavours, packaging may not contain any images or words that refer to anything other than tobacco. In another move, the rules for naming are becoming stricter. For example, the liquids are still sold under terms such as ‘bad boy fuel’, ‘chillin’ or with puns such as ‘OMGin’, referring to a liquid that tastes like gin. From October, this may no longer be allowed on packaging.
