Fontem Ventures entered into an e-cigarette license agreement with Japan Tobacco International (JTI), the third settlement in eight patent infringement suits filed in the US, Reuters said.
Terms of the agreement are similar to two earlier agreements with NJoy and the companies behind 21st Century Smoke and Vapin Plus, the news agency said. Under the two previous settlements, Fontem granted non-exclusive, royalty bearing contracts. Financial terms of the latest agreement were not divulged, Reuters said.
A unit of Imperial Tobacco, Netherlands-based Fontem in 2013 acquired e-cigarette patents from Dragonite International, whose co-founder Hon Lik is known as the father of the modern e-cigarette.
